The LIVING THE TUSKEGEE AIRMEN LEGACY Challenge

Submit Your Story

During this seventieth (70th) anniversary of the beginning of the Tuskegee Airmen experiment we celebrate the many accomplishments of these great Americans. In keeping with the theme of this year's convention and the spirit of TAI, we also want to celebrate the accomplishments of the many people that have been inspired by the Airmen's story to lead more meaningful and successful lives in their own right. In this regard we invite all TAI Heritage Members and Original Tuskegee Airmen relatives (spouses and all generations of descendants of Tuskegee Airmen) to participate in the Living the Tuskegee Airmen Legacy challenge and share your written stories of how the character and accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen have helped motivate you to be more successful in your lives.

Rules of Participation

Stories should be no more than three (3) double spaced 8x11 pages in length. There is no required literary format for stories. Stories may be prepared by individual relatives or groups of relatives. Submissions from groups of relatives may come from more than one generational group.

While all stories are important and relevant, a review committee designated by the ECCTAI leadership team will select the most inspirational submissions for presentation at the 2011 National TAI Convention. The authors of the five (5) most inspirational submissions as subjectively determined by the review committee will have the opportunity to travel to the Washington Metro Area (transportation costs to be reimbursed by TAI) for a day to participate in a professionally prepared filmed representation of their submission for presentation at the Convention. In the event a selected submission is prepared by more than one author, a single representative of that group will be selected to travel to Washington, DC at TAI expense to participate in the film preparation. Other selectees will have their submissions professionally presented in other types of display modes at the Convention.

All stories and supporting information must be received by the review committee no later than May 15, 2011. In an effort to make submission of stories easier, submissions may be made directly to the ECCTAI website. Instructions for submission of entries are provided below. Only the review committee will be granted access to submitted stories made via the ECCTAI website. Submissions may also be mailed to:

Living the Tuskegee Airmen Legacy
c/o William A. Campbell, Jr.
403 Deer Meadow Lane
Rockville, MD 20850

By this notice submitters are placed on notice that submissions may be published in various public media in an effort to promote and publicize the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen.

Submission Requirements

Each participant is required to submit a text document to the specifications listed above. We would also highly encourage the submission of supporting photographs and home video. For photo and video content exceeding 25MB, multiple submissions will need to be made using the upload tool below.

Hard copies of photo and video content can also be submitted to the address listed above. All content mailed will be shipped back to the return address promptly after the review committee has made final decisions.

Accepted text document formats will include but are not limited to the the following file types:
